Logbook - CERB
The Canadian Experience Record Book (CERB) is meant to provide Interns with a tool to record their architectural experience and to enable the Regulatory Organizations of Architecture in Canada (ROAC) jurisdiction to verify and assess the nature and breadth of this experience.
Interns are responsible for maintaining a record of architectural experience in the CERB and credit will only be granted for experience gained while enrolled as an Intern in the IAP. The CERB serves several purposes for Interns:
- To identify areas where architectural experience is being gained and areas where deficiencies exist.
- As a tool in discussions with supervisors to ensure IAs are assigned to suitable work experience for each of the categories.
Completing & Submitting Your CERB
All architectural experience must be recorded in the CERB and signed by the Supervising Architect and Mentor. Interns are required to submit the CERB to their ROAC jurisdiction for review upon completion of 900-1000 hours or six months of architectural experience, whichever comes first. Additionally, they must submit a CERB following a change of employment, and within eight (8) weeks of the date of the last entry otherwise late fees apply or the hours may expire and will not count toward experience. No more than 15 projects per reporting period are accepted.
Please do not submit payment with your application. Once your application is approved, you will be sent a detailed invoice to the email on file that includes payment information.
Only the 4th edition logbooks will be accepted. Please refer to the 4th edition of the IAP Program Manual for detailed descriptions of the 4th Edition CERB categories.
Completing your logbook correctly can help expedite review of the logbook and ensure accuracy with permanent recording of your hours. It also helps minimize frustration associated with logbooks that have been rejected for errors. The AAA must follow the national IAP guidelines when accepting submissions.
To better support interns with their logbook submissions, we have created detailed examples and some tips on how to accurately complete and submit your logbooks. We also urge you to reach out to your Registration Administrator if you have any questions prior to submitting your logbook.
There are special provisions regarding logging out of jurisdiction experience - contact your registration administrator BEFORE submitting your logbook as it may be rejected. Please contact:
[email protected] if your last name falls within A-L, or
[email protected] if your last name falls within M-Z.
The AAA is here to support our interns as they navigate the path to becoming registered professionals.
